A rare show lit up the sky above our cabin last night. Russ and I meandered down roads in the dark, feeling our way by the gravel crunching under our shoes. We made it to a bog that has a good view north.
As the aurora silently danced above in curtains of reds and greens, lightning bugs danced closer to the ground, their feeble white lights the last of summer.

Thanks! I’m just glad they turned out. I took them on my cell phone with a 3-second delay in night mode, during which I held my breath so that I didn’t move the phone/camera. 🙂

Wow!!! I’ve never seen the aurora. I understand that cameras catch them better than the naked eye. These photos are exceptional!

This reminds us of our time living in Inari when we saw such an Aurora borealis nearly every night. But it wasn’t quiet then, there was a certain crackle.

Yes, I’ve heard that the aurora can make sounds. I’ve never been able to hear it. Maybe they were too high up in the atmosphere for that here? So cool that you have heard them!

Beautiful! You still have lightning bugs? We usually see them the beginning of July but I did not see any this year until August.
The lightning bugs seemed to come out late this year here, too. I was surprised to see them in September but it’s been sort of a weird spring/summer here.
We had hot dry weather this summer except a cold spell in August. Nothing that
explains it.
If only I could view it once but this is so beautiful!
