A new sport has reached the shores of Lake Superior. It’s called microfishing. Think birdwatching, but with tiny fish. Quite a change from trying to catch the largest possible fish!

I learned about this unique sport when I interviewed a local department of natural resources fisheries biologist for a different story. Once I retired, I had time to pursue a magazine story. Thank you, Diana! I forgot to mention that I had a source for the story lined up but that fell through. Then it took me months to find another one because microfishing isn’t exactly popular yet. But it all turned out well in the end.

I do, too. I should have mentioned that the anglers use very tiny hooks that cause little damage and that it’s a catch and release sport.
I should have put a smiley face in my comments. But to know there are tiny hooks does make me smile. I guess I just remember fondly our attempts to catch minnows with our hands in the shallows. 🙂🐠
